Peel’s Volunteers Award Nominations for the 2024 V-Oscars
MISSISSAUGA, ON – September 18, 2024
Volunteer MBC was pleased to celebrate over 50 award nominees for the 2024 V-Oscars Volunteer Recognition Awards, in which local non-profit organizations celebrated their formidable volunteers in a unique awards experience.
Emceed by Jake Dheer, and featuring artistic performances by the guitarist Riyen, a rising talent from Mississauga, danceShala dance school, and a jazz quartet, the V-Oscars returned to its classical gala format and recognized the contributions of people making a difference in the Peel Region through inspiring volunteer stories. This year’s theme of Homecoming identified how volunteer efforts make Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon more than just places, but a home for everyone.
“We know Peel is growing and its services are stretched. That’s why volunteers are so precious. Their efforts make this place feel like home, where we’re caring neighbours that put the needs of others ahead,” explained Carine Strong, Volunteer MBC’s Executive Director.
During the event, the Nominees were treated to a wonderful dinner with catering sponsored by Lucky Supply Co.
The 2024 V-Oscars highlighted an award category with its special selection by the Volunteer MBC Board of Directors: The Hazel McCallion Power of Giving Award sponsored by Brampton Brick. This year the award was presented to Allan and Anne Thompson, lifelong volunteers and philanthropists who have made a major impact, especially as agriculture advocates.
A new award category was presented this year, Organization Leader in Volunteer Engagement, sponsored by GiveLife 365, in which Volunteer MBC nominated three of its member organizations to recognize their efforts to make their volunteers feel valued and create inclusive volunteer experiences.
For all of the other award categories, Volunteer MBC’s family of non-profit organizations submitted nominations over the summer of their best volunteers. Each of the Nominees were presented with a medal, sponsored by Kavita V. Bhagat Family Law Solutions, and potentially emerged as the V-Oscar recipient after careful review by the Judging Committee.
