About the program
TheEarly Leaders Youth Mentorship program is designed to help early adolescent youth become more familiar with volunteering and become empowered to make a difference in their community. Taking the leap to get involved with volunteering can often be challenging as it’s difficult to know where to begin. Our program will help early adolescent youth break out of their shell by pairing them with high school mentors who are active leaders in the community.
How it works
Mentees and mentors are expected to meet weekly for 1-on-1 sessions where mentors share their insights and experiences with volunteerism, provide personal development skills and resources, and facilitate conversation circles. The pairs also get an opportunity to build on their leadership skills by co-facilitating monthly workshops and small-group events in collaboration with Volunteer MBC staff. Through our referrals service, we also help connect youth with volunteer opportunities so they can get their foot in the door with community involvement.
Why should I participate?
This is a great opportunity for youth to gain valuable leadership and communication skills, develop their confidence, and network with other youth leaders. We aim to encourage youth to commit to the spirit of volunteerism by recognizing their inherent potential as agents of change and nourish them with the support they need to become empowered community members.
Program Eligibility
- Mentees: Youth 11-13
- Mentors Youth 14-18
We will prioritize members of underserved communities into the program, including people who identify as racialized, LGBTQ2S+, newcomer or refugee, low-income, and/or live with a disability.
