Shelter Movers provides moving and storage services at no cost to women and children fleeing abuse. We are the only organization of our kind in Canada, and our volunteers are no less exceptional. Every year, in collaboration with community partners, our volunteer teams contribute over 15,000 hours to support people transitioning to lives free of violence and abuse.

About The Scheduling Coordinator Role:

Scheduling Coordinators recruit volunteers to join move teams, working from Shelter Movers’ database of active volunteers to create, send, and respond to e-mails. They are the ‘voice’ of Shelter Movers in our volunteers' inboxes, sharing opportunities to help with sharing positivity, encouragement, a sense of purpose, and the joy of our work.

Responsibilities:

  • Create daily ‘Call to Action’ (e-mail) content to send to volunteers
  • Monitor e-mail inbox and respond to volunteers who reply to Calls To Action
  • Update the Mover Availability Calendar with volunteers’ availability
  • Send and respond to emails regarding scheduling updates
  • Following-up with volunteers’ communications with strong consistency and timeliness
  • Work with Move Coordination Manager and other Scheduling Coordinators
  • Have regular check-ins with Shelter Movers staff

Time Commitment:

Approximately 8-10 hours a week. Please note: the work of scheduling isn’t performed in a single continuous ‘shift’; it involves communication and responding to messages during your chosen work hours. Based on your availability, you will be assigned specific days (1-3) for which you will be responsible to perform the Scheduling Coordinator role duties.

This is a work-from-home position, with occasional meetings (in-person and/or conference calls.) A 3 to 6 month commitment is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

Essential Skills & Knowledge:

  • Access to e-mail
  • Strong written communication skills; able to write in a positive, professional ‘voice’ (training will be provided.)
  • A positive, ‘can-do’ attitude
  • Reliable work habits
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, with consistent follow-up
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • High maturity level and good judgment
  • Patience, empathy, and active listening skills
  • Enjoys problem solving
  • Awareness of appropriate boundaries, compassion fatigue, and self-care
  • Additional languages spoken is an asset
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and work from a trauma-informed lens (training will be provided

Shelter Movers volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, complete an interview process, attend an orientation for new volunteers, in addition to signing a confidentiality agreement and obtaining a police reference check.

Shifts are available Anytime

Although the position is virtual and flexible, e are especially looking for someone to cover Fridays and the weekend shifts


Training

You will recieve a two hour orientation training on Trauma-informed care and ongoing support
