Goal

The Community Door is a non-profit collaborative organization that provides common space and resources to health and social service organizations to better serve the residents in Mississauga and Brampton. There are two centrally located, easily accessible locations. It is guided by four values: Collaboration, Caring, Compassion and Competence. Further information: See 'Social Media', below, for a live 'link' to our website. Board Members provide strategic direction and stewardship for the sustainability of Community Door. They shape and lead ongoing review/evaluation, discussion, and planning. Board members are responsible for reporting to the Board on sub-committee or task force actions, and are instrumental in developing and monitoring strategic plans. We are currently looking for individuals with Commercial Real Estate expertise, Regional Government expertise or Not-for-Profit Finance expertise.
Description

As a Member of our Board of Directors, you will:

  • Regularly attend board meetings and important related meetings
  • Make a serious commitment to participate actively in committee work
  • Volunteer for, and willingly accept, assignments and complete them thoroughly and on time
  • Stay informed about committee matters, plus review and comment on minutes and reports
  • Get to know fellow committee members and build collegial, collaborative working relationships that contribute to meaningful, effective participation and consensus-building

Qualifications

  • Overall volunteering commitment for a 2-year term on the Board of Directors (may be less if filling a vacancy midway through a term)
  • Knowledge of the community (Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon)
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Experience and expertise in commercial real estate from a not-for-profit perspective, OR;
  • Experience and expertise in regional government affairs (governance) from a not-for-profit perspective, OR;
  • Experience and expertise in finance (accounting, funding, government regulation) as same pertains to the not-for-profit sector
  • Commitment to learn, understand, and promote Community Door's role in the local volunteer/community service sector
  • Previous volunteer or Board experience with a not-for-profit organization is an asset

Time Commitment
This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment starting 2022-10-03
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Tuesday Morning

Members serve on the Board for a 2-year term. Board Meetings occur once per month for 2 hours (currently second Tuesday of the month at 7:30 am) for, plus up to 2 hours of preparation time

Subcommittee meeting occur once per month at your discretion
Training

Orientation that pertains to Board membership and committees will be arranged.
