Goal

Ian Anderson House is Ontario's first in-resident hospice, providing without charge, quality end of life care to indivduals in our community with a terminal illness. We are situated in a home like setting and we strive to provide an environment that is the next best thing to home. We care for our residents and offer support to their families and loved ones through a very difficult time.


Description

Volunteer at Ian Anderson House to support our staff so that staff can focus on bedside care. Volunteers do tasks such as answer the phone and door, take messages, transfer calls, greet visitors and escort visitors down to the rooms. Volunteers also help out in the kitchen by keeping it tidy, making light meals for residents, plus spending time chatting with, and offering a supportive, listening ear to families going through a difficutl time.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Age - 20
  • Ian Anderson House requests a commitment to volunteer for at least 6 MONTHS, preferably longer (see TIME COMMITMENT, below)
  • Solid English communication skills (fluency in additional languages is welcome)
  • You're passionate about supporting seniors and compassionate and empathetic towards those who are in palliative care
  • Available for mandatory TRAINING (see below)
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check & Proof of Vaccination required
  • 2 References, as part of the SCREENING process

Time Commitment
This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment
Shifts are available Anytime

FLEXIBLE, one SHIFT per week (or two), each shift is usually 3 HOURS long.


Training

ORIENTATION with Volunteer Coordinator and TRAINING, ongoing support while you are in your volunteering 'role'.
