About the Position
3053 - Together We Are Better: Interest Based Volunteering - A One-to-One Summer Volunteer Opportunity
Position Address:
Various locations across Mississauga

Community Living Mississauga (CLM) is a large not-for-profit, charitable organization, that supports over 3,000 individuals who have intellectual disabilities. Our vision is that all people will live in a state of dignity and respect, and share in all elements of living in a community that is welcoming, accepting and inclusive of all individuals. Our mission is to support the Mississauga residents whom we serve to ensure their quality of life in the community is meaningfully improved.

Spend the Summer of 2022 with purpose, by meaningfully improving the quality of life of an adult who has an intellectual disability. Volunteers will be matched with an adult who has an intellectual disability to pursue mutual leisure and recreational interests for a period of 12 weeks. The goals of the position are to reduce social isolation, explore new interests, and improve the quality of life of a person who has an intellectual disability.

Once a week, on a mutually agreeable day (and time), volunteers will meet with a pre-assigned person to enjoy an activity that is of mutual interest to both parties for a period of 12 weeks. (Any costs associated with course fees will be covered for the volunteer). Meetings and activities are expected to last 1 - 2 hours and may take place on weekdays, weeknights, or weekends. Volunteers will be introduced to their respective 'matches' before the start of the 12-week engagement (see TIMECOMMITMENT, below). Some of the things that you can anticipate doing with your match include, going out for coffee, bowling, watching a movie, going for a walk in the park, attending a special event in Mississauga, etc.

You will enjoy weekly, ongoing support by Community Living Mississauga staff, when needed, AND you will perform program evaluations to gauge success after 6 weeks of volunteering, and at the end of 12 weeks.

We have 14 people who are looking for a personal volunteer to support them as they start re-entering our community after a long period of social isolation.

PLEASE EXPLORE THIS UNIQUE VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY by submitting your application by no later than June 8, 2022. Volunteers with 'profiles' within Volunteer MBC's Referral System can 'click' on the yellow box 'Apply Now!' (above) to gain immediate access to the CLM online APPLICATION FORM. After completing/submitting that eform, we'll be in touch for the SCREENING process, and we hope to be able to help you determine which person is right for you!

AFTER YOU HAVE APPLIED, as a precaution, please monitor your 'Junk/Spam' email folders and leave space on your voicemail for communications from CLM.
