The Dari/Pashto Speaking 'Community Connections' Volunteer will collaborate with Indus staff in the planning and delivery of culturally and language-specific workshops for newcomers to support their successful integration into the community. The workshops will offer an orientation to Canada, Ontario, and Peel and provide an understanding of Canadian cultural norms and social etiquette. Workshops will be conducted in July and August 2022, with scheduling to be arranged.

Responsibilities may include:

• Prepare course material for up to 6 to 8 weeks, one workshop session per week (volunteer engagement is for 4 to 6 months)
• Create visual 'teaching aids', course syllabus, topic schedule, quizzes, and activities to engage newcomers during the workshop
• Collaborate with Indus is setting up a 'visual' communications system to deliver the course (unless and until 'in person' teaching becomes possible)
• Provide an overall review of the program at the conclusion of the workshop
• Support the creation of language-specific online content (TikTok/Instagram/Youtube videos)

• Minimum Age - 18
• Ability to speak/write English, with fluency in Dari or Pashto
• Local knowledge of your community is a definite asset (eg. newcomer assistance services, government, community service organizations, transit, financial institutions, etc.)
• You are organized, project-oriented, such that you can develop program content/workshop format
• You're comfortable providing instruction in a 'virtual' setting (eg. via Zoom)
• Ability to commit for weekly workshops, prep time/meetings, over 6 to 8 weeks, minimum
• Committed to providing a friendly, engaging educational experience that will be fun for everyone involved
• Ready to complete orientation and training suitable for the role
• Police Check
