Goal

Indus Community Services is a charity with significant presence in Peel region (Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon). Our mission is to support growing communities, to manage change through quality, client-centred, social & health services and responsive public education.

In January, 2022, we will be continuing with our online virtual workshops about nutrition and healthy eating to seniors 65+, and a qualified, engaging Nutritionist Volunteer is needed to facilitate their design, plus deliver these workshops. Please see DESCRIPTION and QUALIFICATIONS, below.



Description

PLEASE NOTE: During COVID-19, Indus IS ON-BOARDING VOLUNTEERS VIRTUALLY, AS WELL AS THE ONLINE AND 'VIRTUAL' ONE-TO-ONE TRAINING.

In collaboration with Indus staff and other volunteers assigned to this project, you will develop and deliver online, virtually an informative and engaging nutrition workshop that focuses on Seniors in our local community (65+). Our Seniors are mostly South Asian in terms of background and workshop content will include cuisine (food ingredients) from that region, plus food preparation. Through this program, Indus wants to 'reach out' to local residents who may have low incomes, suffer from 'food insecurity', and who may actually be homeless. 

QUALIFIED CANDIDATES SHOULD APPLY by January 2, 2022, as workshop preparation will begin in early January, 2022. Volunteers with 'profiles' in Volunteer MBC's Referral System can click the yellow box 'Apply Now!' Qualifications

  • Capable of volunteering to facilitate senior-focused, 'friendly', engaging nutrition workshops > Needed for January, 2022)
  • Experience in the food, hospitality, and/or nutrition and food service industry, with a corresponding passion for cooking & baking
  • Design and deliver programming around food, cooking and nutrition skills (you have reliable access to the Internet and devices/software suitable for this 'role')
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of food insecurity issues effecting low-income and homeless individuals
  • You enjoy working with seniors
  • Besides English, proficient in one or more South Asian languages such as Hindi, Punjabi or Urdu

SCHEDULED TRAINING: Training will be provided to all volunteers.
