VON Canada is a national, not-for-profit, charitable home and community care organization. For more than 115 years, our nurses, therapists and other health care providers have cared for Canadians in their own homes. Today, we offer more than 75 home care, personal support, and community services designed to help people of all ages to get healthy and stay healthy. Our team of more than 5,000 staff and 9,000 volunteers serves Canadians in more than 1,200 communities across our country.Especially during the COVID-19 Pandemic, our Meals on Wheels program has taken on particular importance. To support it, we require Volunteer Food Packagers, who will assemble food in packages and stage it for our Delivery Drivers, both 'roles' that we regard as volunteer essential services. This 'role' is a critical 'link' in the chain that will contribute towards sustaining the health of VON clients. During COVID-19, strict HEALTH & SAFETY procedures will be followed at the food depot (see Map, below), plus the VON abides by contactless delivery during COVID-19.


Directly supporting the VON 'Meals on Wheels' program at this critical time, the Volunteer Food Packager assembles and packages food for our Delivery Drivers

This volunteering activity strictly follows necessary COVID-19 'restrictions' > distancing and PPE (sanitizer, masks, gloves provided at the food depot) > Erin Mills Twin Arena (Mississauga - see Map, below), with current need for volunteers on MONDAY FRIDAY (see TIME COMMITMENT, below)

Light physical activity and standing involved

Suitable applicants will be required to commit to a 6 MONTH volunteering engagement

  • Good oral English communication skills
  • 'Role' requires light physical activity (moderate lifting/carrying/standing)

  • You are committed to comply with strict COVID-19 physical distancing and PPE requirements/procedures

Time Commitment

Shifts are available on the following days
 - Monday Morning, Friday Morning

MONDAY & FRIDAY MORNING, each week > 8:30 AM to NOON


ORIENTATION will be about the facility and how the 'role' relates to the 'Meals on Wheels' program, and TRAINING will focus on proper food handling and packaging for client deliveries, with heavy emphasis on COVID-19 Health & Safety procedures

(Much of this will be virtual, with 'in-person' demonstrations where applicable)
