Created in 2015, Restoration and Empowerment for Social Transition (R.E.S.T.) Centres is a not-for-profit organization committed to ending youth homelessness by focusing on intervention and prevention, while providing holistic support for youth aging out of the foster care system. Through strategic partnerships, R.E.S.T. offers a diverse range of services and programs to youth transitioning from the care and custody of the Children's Aid Society before they find themselves in a position of needing emergency help.

R.E.S.T. Centres considers itself a grassroots organization, committed to build and expand its impact, and we are on the search for a volunteer Social Media Coordinator to volunteer time with us and build our online presence. Much of what we need will embrace a start-up strategy for how we intend to achieve meaningful connections with our stakeholders, and with the public-at-large. We are looking for engaging content that not only raises awareness about our organization, AND also about homeless youth, so we can educate people as to what it means to be homeless, helping to engage the community to eradicate the stigma and prejudice occasioned by homelessness.

The ideal candidate in the 'role' of Social Media Coordinator will create, maintain, and enlarge a strong online presence for our organization. This volunteer will implement online marketing strategies through 'social media' accounts (i.e., Linkedin, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook) in an effort to broadcast/amplify our brand, cause, and programs awareness. Additionally, this individual will grow to understand our target audience(s) and create an appropriate strategy to reach into the community more effectively to achieve the goals outlined above. This opportunity entails a key 'role' that ideally allows you to 'build from the ground up' in helping us define our 'brand', its vision/mission, and impact, within the local community. As such, you will come with an established, mature perspective as to what the obligations of the 'role' are, plus be already aware of the 'best practices' designed to achieve these and maximize your volunteer engagement.   • Primarily, you possess the energy, positive attitude, and a desire to help change our local communities in Peel
  • Minimum post-secondary education in Marketing and/or related fields (with facility in graphic design most welcome)
  • Opportunity may suit an accomplished college/university student seeking a 'placement', and the MAXIMUM AGE is 35
  • Experience 'posting' on social media platforms (eg. Linkedin, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
  • Reliable access to the Internet (appropriate devices, software, etc.)
  • Strong communication, multitasking and analytical skills, incl. excellent oral/written English
  • A passion for 'connecting' people and communities (you fearlessly 'reach out')
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, takes initiative, readily creative and passionate about helping others, particularly 'vulnerable youth'
  • You are a 'team player' who seeks further experience, plus enjoys collaborating within cross-functional teams
  • We prefer a volunteer engagement of a MINIMUM of 6 MONTHS
  • As 'vulnerable' youth are involved, a satisfactory 'Police Vulnerable Sector Check' is REQUIRED

WEEKLY: We are looking for someone who is willing to dedicate between 5-10 hours of their time, with FLEXIBILITY, depending upon specific tasks/projects/campaign deadlines, or events. While your independent work can happen on your own determined time, there are meetings and collaborative sessions that may take place weekday evenings and on weekends. Volunteering will be done REMOTELY, principally from the volunteer's home.


> Speak with the executive director to understand the scope and outcomes desired

> Cooperate with HR to onboard

> Collaborate with the Board of Directors (esp. Marketing Committee) to understand long term/short term objectives, project planning, and 'next steps'

During the COVID-19 Emergency, the interactions outlined above will necessarily be 'VIRTUAL' (ie. 'meetings' via the Internet, telephone, etc.)
