VON Canada is a national, not-for-profit, charitable home and community care organization. For more than 115 years, our nurses, therapists, and other healthcare providers have cared for Canadians in their own homes. Today, we offer more than 75 home care, personal support, and community services designed to help people of all ages to get healthy and stay healthy. Our team of more than 5,000 staff and 9,000 volunteers serves Canadians in more than 1,200 communities across our country.  Volunteers Provide weekly in-person visits or calls to the clients for a 6 months period. As long as the COVID-19 Pandemic lasts, strict HEALTH & SAFETY procedures will be followed.If you are an early retiree, even an 'older adult' (55+) without pre-existing conditions that have you classified as 'vulnerable' in a pandemic, engaging with the VON may be a great way to help. We are very receptive to your application to join this worthwhile program for a long-term engagement (at least 6 months) that will impact your fellow residents directly.


Brighten the day of an isolated senior or physically disabled adult by providing in-person visits and/or a caring telephone call on a weekly basis. These visits and/or telephone assurances provide the elderly living within the community of Mississauga with a feeling of security knowing their well-being is being monitored and encourages social interaction to help prevent isolation and reduce feelings of loneliness. Training, education, and ongoing support provided. The volunteer and client develop a healthy, supportive relationship based on trust, open-mindedness, sharing and caring, warmth, and empathy.

In order to promote program quality, all applicants for this volunteering 'role' are expected to participate in an interview, plus be subject to reference checks, a Police Vulnerable Sector Check, with comprehensive orientation and training provided to those applicants who are accepted for the program.

VON's need for volunteers to fill this vital 'role' continues to be URGENT. Applicants who have 'profiles' with Volunteer MBC's Referral System should click the yellow box 'Apply Now!' (above/below). When you do that, you will gain immediate access to the VON online 'volunteer application form', plus your name/contact info will be sent confidentially to the VON program volunteer coordinator specifically in reference to this 'role'.   • Oral English communication skills (fluency in additional language(s) are welcome!) 
  • Length of commitment - at least 6 MONTHS
  • Proof of Vaccination (VON policy)
  • Prior involvement in volunteering in the area of 'telephone reassurance' for older adults is welcome, but NOT REQUIRED
  • Ability to abide by a weekly schedule (TBA), consistently
  • You have access to a reliable telephone, and you have Internet for access with the VON
  • You are prepared to attend all orientation/training ('virtual') sessions, plus strictly comply with VON policies/procedures (incl. client confidentiality)
