Position: 2785 - COVID-19 Community Response Delivery Drivers > IMMEDIATE NEED

Goal

The Pandemic, with so many isolated, has been witness to a high demand for Drivers, who engage in a variety of projects designed to assist those in 'isolation', ranging from CONTACTLESS delivery of meals (mainly to seniors) to the pick up of 'essentials', shopping, etc. As the 'volunteer centre' for Peel region, Volunteer MBC has played a significant part in coordinating volunteers for these worthwhile, vital initiatives. OUR MOST PRESSING, IMMEDIATE NEED at this time is for DELIVERY DRIVERS, who have access to a reliable vehicle, and who can pick up MEALS from a Brampton location (7700 Hurontario Street, just north of Ray Lawson Boulevard), then deliver these to addresses in BramptonMississauga, Caledon. If you can organize your time to reliably accommodate this 'role' (see DESCRIPTION), you'll be making an extremely important contribution to respond to our needs in August, plus into Autumn.

Able-bodied seniors, too, are welcome to apply!


Description

  • Volunteers are needed WEEKDAYS (Mon thru Fri), and every effort will be made to work out mutually convenient schedules (see Time Commitment, below)
  • Short notice, 'on call' engagement also available
  • Pickup of hampers (boxes that contain perishables and canned/dry goods) will be in at Community Door, Brampton (see Map, below, for the physical address), CONTACTLESS DELIVERIES to be made as part of ROUTES in Brampton, Mississauga, Caledon (details to be provided upon your application and during recruitment/screening) 
  • In every pickup/delivery, volunteers' health and safety during the COVID-19 are priority concerns (ie. 'distancing', masks, gloves, non-contact deliveries, etc.)
  • You can expect to volunteer independently, with any involvement with others properly 'social distanced', plus 'PPE' precautions (masks, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Full Class 'G' Ontario Driver's Licence (or acceptable equivalent)
  • Access to a reliable vehicle that is covered by third party liability auto insurance required in Ontario
  • Ability to lift 10 to 15 lb (4 to 7 kg) boxes (plus walking and possibly climbing stairs)
  • Solid oral English (fluency in additional language(s) always welcome)
  • Knowledge of main routes in your local community is a plus
  • Firm commitment to volunteer within the specified volunteer engagement period of  3 MONTHS (see Time Commitment, below)
  • Committed to abide by COVID-19 health/safety rules
  • Access to the Internet for purposes of communication (see TRAINING, below)

Time Commitment
This is a Short Term (3 months or less) commitment starting 2021-08-09
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Monday Afternoon

WEEKLY: Monday thru Friday > Minimum 2 to 3 hours (Volunteers must commit to the schedule and be reliable and punctual. Thank you.) 'ON CALL' (short notice/standby) scheduling also available.
