Independent Business Specialty Interest Group (IBSIG) of the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario (RPNAO) and its members strive to build a 'gold standard' of nursing practice in their individual (and non-traditional) nursing-based businesses through education and collaboration among themselves and as a public service. We require a Volunteer with 'social media' (and marketing) savvy, who will further develop our community presence by skillful, careful platform management, plus imparting concise, interesting, and educational information to our members (improve our accessibility) via our website, Facebook, INSTAGRAM, Linkedin (and other Internet platforms that IBSIG may use). We envisage our volunteer Administrator collaborating with our President and Executive members as to bring a professional and polished image of our group to both our nurse members and the public-at-large. Help IBSIG improve how we present ourselves VIRTUALLY, as you help us refine our website and further develop our presence on the aforesaid 'social media', with constructive suggestions based on your experience and know-how.

This role involves VIRTUAL 'social media' administration (and adapting and maintaining educational materials and other content on our website and 'social media' platform(s)). In collaboration with our President, and with other Executive members, you will enjoy volunteering VIRTUALLY in a location convenient to you (ie. your home), while applying your technical knowledge, capabilities, and experience (and marketing savvy) for the benefit of or nursing professional members and the public-at-large.

Our 'social media' ideally should be populated with relevant medical/nursing news, items that relate to being a professional entrepreneur, plus articles (blogs), occasional polls, networking/self-promotion strategies, complementary graphics, and include a little fun. The sites should be attractive such that we capture new members, achieve retention, and possibly bring back former members.

Our Social Media Administrator also would gather and stockpile content from reputable sources (with permissions/credits) for use in our 'social media', its composition created in collaboration with our website developer and pursuant to periodic meetings/disucussions with the Executive of the organization.

  • Excellent oral/written English skills
  • STRONG, UNEQUIVOCAL COMMITMENT to take on this volunteering 'role' and to DELIVER SUCCESS and IMPACT through fulfilling it (achieve a CLEAR 'Win/Win' that includes YOU)
  • Thorough knowledge of current 'social media' (especially Facebook, INSTAGRAM, Linkedin), with demonstratedcapability /proven experience to ADMINISTER (manage) various platforms, plus translate our vision/mission into a dynamic, influential 'message' in the public domain
  • Role involves adapting and maintaining educational materials and content within our website and 'social media' platforms, and YOU ARE READY TO DO THAT
  • Proficient in computer software 'apps' typically associated with 'social media', plus reliable access to the Internet and devices/software needed for this 'role'
  • Creative, innovative, and equally capable of attention to detail

    PLEASE NOTE: You should have a portfolio of quality examples showcasing your involvement/experience in websites and/or 'social media' (STRONGLY ENCOURAGED). *** During COVID-19, screening of volunteer applicants will be remote/'virtual' (telephone/email/online interview(s) - Skype, Zoom, etc.)

FLEXIBLE: Volunteering activity will be principally project-oriented, with ongoing admin/maintenance of 'social media', much of this by means of home-based. VIRTUAL volunteering. The 'Social Media/Marketing Volunteer' will have periodic telephone conferences with our staff, meeting in person as the need arises (the latter AFTER the COVID-19 Emergency has resolved).

Experience has taught us that budgeting 10 to 15 hours per week on the average should be sufficient to fulfill this 'role', with peak periods and ebs quite possible.


Orientation about IBSIG (our vision/mission) will be provided VIRTUALLY to successful volunteer applicants.
