Goal

Seniors Life Enhancement Centres (SLEC) provides caregiver respite by promoting and enriching the lives of adults with physical and/or cognitive challenges through health and recreational services personalized to the needs of our clients and their families. Our motto is 'Transforming Lives Through Purposeful Living'. Everyday, our dedicated team of volunteers contribute to the quality of life of our clients. During COVID-19, volunteers engage virtually (remotely) with the seniors whom we assist.

OUR MOST IMMEDIATE, URGENT NEED 
is for Program Assisstant Volunteers to assist in the facilitation of one-to-one or small group interactions with clients who speak Cantonese or Italian as their first language.


Description

  • Program Assistant Volunteers will be provided ORIENTATION and TRAINING about SLEC 'virtual' programming platforms (ie. ZOOM, Google Meet, etc.) and device/software requirements
  • You will be assisting or leading the facilitation of one to one or small group programs or social calls to engage clients who speak Cantonese or Italian as their first language
  •  Volunteers may also assist clients in large group programs by providing translation in order for clients to be able to fully participate

Qualifications

  • Volunteer engagement of 4 to 6 MONTHS (preferably longer)
  • Must be able to speak and understand Cantonese or Italian, plus communicate effectively in English
  • Reliable access to the Internet and devices/software suitable for theprogram and your 'role'
  • You have a passion for assisting seniors, and you understand how many have 'special needs', to be listened to
  • You recognize the importance of staying in touch, minimizing the risk of 'social isolation', and the need for inclusiveness within small groups
  • Creative, sensitive, you're committed to maximizing quality experiences by seniors in the SLEC program
  • Able to adhere to an agreed schedule, whether one-on-one or in a group setting

Time Commitment
This is a Medium Term (4 - 6 months) commitment
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Monday Morning, Monday Afternoon, Monday Evening, Tuesday Morning, Tuesday Afternoon, Tuesday Evening, Wednesday Morning, Wednesday Afternoon, Wednesday Evening, Thursday Morning, Thursday Afternoon, Thursday Evening, Friday Morning, Friday Afternoon, Friday Evening, Saturday Afternoon

Scheduling will be mutually arranged, having regard to the requirements of the program and needs/availability of participants.

During COVID-19: SLEC delivers its programs 'virtually' (remotely)


Training

Volunteers will be given a full orientation to SLEC and training on their role before starting their first shift.

TRAINING will also include: 'Virtual' Platforms (i.e. Zoom, Google Meet, etc.), plus AODA, Dementia, and documentation training
