Peel Cares 2024: Warming Hearts and Fighting Isolation this Winter

Peel Region, ON – December 4, 2024 – Volunteer MBC is launching the Peel Cares campaign to combat isolation and spread warmth across the Peel Region. Kicking off on December 5 in honour of International Volunteer Day, the campaign will run through January 1, 2025, offering numerous opportunities for residents to volunteer and make a positive impact in their community this winter.

This year’s Peel Cares initiative focuses on fostering connections between residents of Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon, especially those who experience isolation. Volunteers can engage in a variety of activities that provide support and bring joy to vulnerable community members, with a special emphasis on reducing loneliness during the colder months.

Special Event: Holiday Card-Making to Spread Cheer

As part of Peel Cares, Volunteer MBC is hosting a special Holiday Card-Making Event on December 7, 2024, inviting youth and older adults to come together to create festive holiday cards. The event provides an opportunity for different generations to collaborate and connect while spreading holiday cheer.

“These cards will be distributed to isolated individuals through several of our member organizations, helping to brighten their holidays and let them know they are remembered,” says Carine Strong, Executive Director of Volunteer MBC. “This event is a beautiful way for people of all ages to come together and make a meaningful contribution to reducing loneliness in our community.”

The holiday cards will be delivered to seniors, individuals with disabilities, and others who may be experiencing social isolation in Peel. Volunteers who participate in the card-making event will not only create heartfelt messages of kindness but also help forge stronger community bonds.

Inspiration in Action: Celebrate International Volunteer Day

International Volunteer Day, held on December 5th, marks the official launch of Peel Cares. This year’s theme, Inspiration in Action, highlights the critical role volunteers play in fostering community connections, both locally and globally. By recognizing the contributions of volunteers, we hope to inspire others to take part in spreading kindness and support during the winter season.

“We know that winter can be especially tough for those who are isolated,” says Strong. “Peel Cares is about creating opportunities for people to connect, share their time, and make a meaningful difference. Volunteers are the heart of this campaign, and we’re proud to work alongside them to brighten lives this winter.”
