Purpose and Key Learnings:

This workshop will introduce the concepts of behaviour-based interviewing which uses a structured approach to objectively collect information about past behaviour in order to anticipate how a candidate will perform in a volunteer role.

Key learnings:

At the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
• Understand the role of interviews as part of the screening process and assess your own program for areas of improvement. 
• Design effective interview guidelines. 
• Immediately apply the principles learned with the tools, concepts and suggestions in order to make recruiting decisions based on objective data.
Who should attend?
  • Whether you are responsible for volunteer recruitment or coordinating a volunteer run program/service, this is a session for all volunteer engagement professionals who are directly responsible for onboarding of new volunteers.

Facilitator: Kathleen Douglass

Kathleen has over 25 years of international experience working at both the field and leadership levels with formal education in the not‐for‐profit sector.
Previously she was the Manager, Volunteer / Community Services with Workplace Safety and Prevention Services (WSPS), where she provided leadership to a provincial team who delivered educational health and safety programmes to Ontarians. She was also one of the architects of Humber College’s Advanced Program in Volunteer Studies and presented sessions on the Governance and Writing Policies modules along with portions of the Fundamentals program for 10 years. She holds an MBA, Strategic Leadership Certificate, Voluntary Sector and Arts Diploma and Fundamentals of Volunteer Management. She is Past President on the PAVRO (Professional Administrators of Volunteer Leaders ‐ Ontario) Board of Directors and currently serves as a District Parlimentarian for Zonta International – a service organization which promotes the status of women in both local and global communities.
