Volunteer MBC Workshop: PREB-Ontario Volunteer Experience Recognition Program

Date:
Thursday, May 19, 2016 - 9:00am to 12:00pm

One of the legacy components of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games is PREB-Ontario which helps usher in a new skills-based era in volunteer recognition.

Voluntary organizations can now move beyond the traditional ways of thanking and recognizing volunteers. Now volunteers can receive a PREB Certificate that lists the tasks and skills they used as a volunteer. This certificate also details key aspects of a volunteer’s experience, such as hours of volunteering completed, activities performed, special achievements or training obtained and special comments by supervisors.

The PREB Certificate is ideal for anyone looking to be recognized for their volunteer involvement, but especially for:

  • Voluntary organizations need to know about how this new era in volunteer recognition can help them attract volunteers.
  • Anyone looking to advance their careers can benefit from having a PREB Certificate, especially newcomers to Canada or anyone looking to take their career in a new direction. Youth also benefit as they strive towards their goals.
  • Employers and people involved in education need to know how PREB Certificates can assist their decision-making and help students.

Workshop Details:

A legacy from the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games is PREB-Ontario, a Volunteer Experience Recognition Program which has its roots in Quebec and has been moving across the country. The 23,000 volunteers who supported the Games received a PREB Certificate and will soon be looking at your organization to recognize them in the same way.

PREB-Ontario is a free, easy-to-use volunteer experience recognition tool to create a certificate that summarizes the volunteer’s experience, presenting an accurate and professional account of the responsibilities assumed by the volunteer, as well as the skills that was required to develop or share in the context of their volunteer activities.

Participants in this workshop will receive step-by-step instruction of how to create a PREB Certificate, as well as a customized login and password to take back to your organization so that you can begin using the tool right away.

This workshop will cover:

  • Training on PREB Certificate creation with the ability to go back to your organization to train your colleagues on creating PREB Certificates as well
  • Stronger understanding of the benefits of PREB Certificates, not just as a free volunteer experience recognition tool, but as a foundational document to help with role design and risk management
  • Practical applications – we will create a PREB Certificate during this session and send you back to your office with the tools to begin creating PREB Certificates immediately

Note: The Professional Administrators of Volunteer Leaders - Ontario (PAVR-O) recognizes Volunteer MBC workshops as ongoing professional development for certification or recertification.
